What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment.
Mindfulness also involves acceptance, meaning that we pay attention to our thoughts and feelings without judging them—without believing, for instance, that there’s a “right” or “wrong” way to think or feel in a given moment. When we practice mindfulness, our thoughts tune into what we’re sensing in the present moment rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future.
Sometimes when it comes to eating I feel like I’m on auto pilot and don’t really think about what I am doing, so introducing mindfulness into eating is essential. Easier said than done. This is what I struggle with – being mindful, sticking to what I say I’m going to do, creating habits.
I’ve also realised that I’ve forgotten to ask for help when grocery shopping – not very bright of me is it! I think I will write that at the top of my grocery list. I have a pad that I use to write down what I want, I believe that I will write that statement at the top of a few pages in the pad to remind me and get into the habit of always doing that so I don’t forget again.
There is still something blocking me from releasing my extra weight, this is all part of my personal journey and one day it will just all fall into place.
In the meantime I am learning a lot about myself and just enjoying the journey.
